Traveling to Martha's Vineyard

Welcome to the charming Island of Martha's Vineyard, located seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts. With only two ways to arrive by public transportation, you will need reservations by airline or the island's ferry system.

Airlines serving the Vineyard are Cape Air, Delta Airlines and Jet Blue Airways. If you are traveling in a vehicle, the Steamship Authority provides transportation to and from Martha's Vineyard. Passenger only ferries are Hy-line Cruises and the Seastreak. Hy-line Cruises depart from Hyannis and Falmouth to the island and tickets may be purchased online at hylinecruises.com or by calling the ticket office at: 1-800-492-8082. The Seastreak passenger only ferry departs from New Jersey, Manhattan and New Bedford bringing travelers to the island. If you are traveling by car or bus via ferry, the Steamship Authority in Woods Hole is your departure point to the island. If you plan to bring a vehicle to the island, you MUST have a reservation to insure passage to the island. During the summer months, a reservation is imperative, and you should secure this as soon as you have your stay dates. In the off-season, late October through early May, weekdays do allow for stand-by spaces; however, it is not recommended, as you may face delayed wait times. There are NO stand-by spaces during the summer season, so please be sure to make reservations for your vehicle well ahead of time. Reservations can be secured on-line at www.steamshipauthority.com  or by calling the ticket offices at 1-508-477-8600 or 1-508-693-9130. Passengers traveling by bus can purchase tickets and obtain schedules for bus transportation at the Steamship Authority Office in Woods Hole or online.

The Vineyard Transit Authority is the island's public transportation system, and makes stops at both the Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs ferry terminals If using public transportation, please check the website,  vineyardtransit.com  for fares, routes and schedules to all island towns.
